Drug Treatment Protocols
Monday, February 27th, 2012When abuse of common street drugs like morphine or heroin becomes a serious problem, it should be clear that rehabilitation is necessary. There are numerous drug rehabilitation centers that use many types of approaches and therapies, such as a common one where the drug is stopped abruptly, but that frequently leads to having to endure a rough withdrawal phase due to the response of the addict’s body to suddenly halting what has become an addicting substance. A number of detox therapies can be used to assist in passage through this stage, but one superb method to bypass the adverse reaction is by substitution of a safer drug, for a short period. Suboxone is one of these substitute drugs that is not as powerful as the addicting one yet still yields enough effects to reduce the strong withdrawal reaction. The approach employing suboxone detox must be handled extremely carefully with the supervision of a doctor, allowing the dosage to be reduced as quickly as possible and to eliminate a second addictive response to suboxone itself. This modality gives the addict a more gentle removal of the physical addiction without the horrible withdrawal reaction. There are clinics that have experience with suboxone detox, the drug treatment centers.
Note that suboxone is still an addicting drug and people can and do become addicted to suboxone. This occurs when the supervision of suboxone to substitute for the primary addicting opiate is not done correctly, or if the patient doesn’t follow the dosage instructions or if suboxone is illegally obtained. In this case, the use of suboxone in effect backfires and causes an addiction to the substitute. That is why the use of suboxone has to be handled at qualified drug treatment centers.
Suboxone is a reasonably good substitute for opiates, but is not useful for alcohol rehab. Alcoholism is another medical disease and has different treatment protocols. The experts at drug treatment centers can also treat alcohol addiction problems. Investigate their website for the full story.
